Japan overtakes USA as No. 1 in WBSC Women's Softball World Rankings following Tokyo Olympics

The Tokyo 2020 gold medalists are now the top-ranked nation in the world. There is a total of 67 national federations included in the rankings. Cuba and Indonesia made the biggest moves up the softball rankings, jumping 10 places to No. 18 and No. 25, respectively.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic baseball tournament will feature world No. 1 Japan, No. 3 Korea, No. 4 USA, No. 5 Mexico, No. 7 Dominican Republic and No. 24 Israel. The new rankings include a global span of 84 countries and territories
A total of 67 countries are still ranked in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Rankings, while 49 nations are included in the WBSC Men’s Softball World Ranking.

Seven of the 10 new countries in the rankings are from Africa. Japan will head into the Tokyo 2020 Olympics this July-August as the top-ranked baseball nation in the world.

Belize and Chile are the latest countries to join the WBSC Women’s Softball World Rankings while Canada earned the most points and Belgium gained the most places following the final update of 2019. Four Olympic continents represented in the Top 10 while a record 69 countries and territories are now ranked in women’s softball, with USA still No. 1.
